The Story Behind Focus Frame

The idea for Focus Frame began a few years ago at a treatment facility in California. I was working with a client who came into my office visibly anxious—shoulders tense, eyes darting. They told me this wasn’t a passing feeling. Whenever they felt anxious, angry, or sad, the emotion would linger all day. No matter what they tried, they couldn’t shake it. In desperation, they’d turned to their phone, scrolling endlessly just to find a moment of relief from the chaos inside.

As they spoke, I noticed a snow globe sitting on my desk. I picked it up, shook it, and asked, “Is it like this?” They nodded immediately, eyes locked on the swirling snow. Within moments, I could see their breathing slow, their shoulders drop. The simple act of focusing on something visual and contained had started to calm their nervous system.

I explained that emotions, when allowed to move through us naturally, often last only a few minutes. It’s our thoughts—constantly “shaking the globe”—that make them feel endless. If we can stay with the feeling, without fighting it, clarity and calm begin to return—just like the snow settling back to stillness.

I encouraged them to practice mindfulness for five minutes a day. The next week, they came back and admitted they hadn’t practiced. But they had bought a snow globe. And then another client did the same. And another. None were meditating—but all were instinctively drawn to that simple, grounding object.

That’s when it clicked: what if I could build mindfulness into the snow globe itself?
